Local Utah author Phil Hermanek is a veteran community newspaper journalist who has reported on crime from the Cook County Criminal Court at 26th and California on Chicago’s South Side, to the Kenai and Anchorage courts in Alaska. “The Trials of Billy Dean Smith” is a true crime story detailing Hermanek’s court coverage for The Peninsula Clarion newspaper in Alaska, and includes excerpts from Smith’s confession of the murders to authorities.
Now retired and living with his ever-present Alaskan Husky, Yukon, Phil Hermanek writes from his log cabin high in the mountains of northeastern Utah.
