Everyone here at Dolly’s hopes you have had a wonderful, adventurous [yet safe] summer!
We are absolutely floored that August is mere days away. As summer winds down and back-to-school excitement rises, we would love to highlight some of the Park City happenings to celebrate the close of this warm and vibrant season…
Park City Kimball Arts Festival August 2-4, 2013
The 44th Annual Park City Kimball Arts Festival is presented by KSL 5 benefitting the Kimball Art Center here in historic PC! As one of the oldest and largest arts fests in the west, this year is bound to exceed all expectations! With 220 exhibiting artists and countless musical guests, food vendors, and local recreational/entertainment opportunities–everyone at Dolly’s agrees this is one of the greatest weekends all season! Who doesn’t love supporting local art?
Park City: Sunday, August 11, Start: 12:15 & estimated Finish: 3:45.
Rolling through Bryce Canyon National Park and two national monuments, the 2013 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah professional cycling stage race will be the longest and among the most challenging in its nine-year history. This year’s event will test the world’s finest professional cycling teams with a total of 586 miles and 43,621 vertical feet of climbing.
The 2013 Tour of Utah will repeat the spectacular Stage 6 route that saw Levi Leipheimer win in a stunning solo breakaway in 2012. Once again, the route climbs through the scenic and private Wolf Creek Ranch, crosses the Heber Valley through the friendly mountain burghs of Heber City and Midway before winding its way to the base of Empire Pass. This climb should witness another all-out assault by the pure climbers to see who the real King of the Mountains will be in this year’s race. Following a blistering descent down the 11 percent mine road they climbed one day earlier, the race will again finish in front of massive crowds on lower Main Street.
Note: Park Silly Sunday markets will suspend only for the Arts Festival weekend–but will simply be moved up Main a bit for the Tour of Utah festivities. No one panic–you can still pick your produce/get your silly on!

“While medieval alchemists sought to turn lead into gold, we strive to turn useless stuff like blown-out inner tubes, old seat-belts and advertising banners into useful stuff like bags and wallets. Another word for this is upcycling. Recycling turns stuff into the same thing over and over again. Upcycling turns something of lesser value into something of greater value.”
With many of us here in Park City being cyclists, Alchemy Goods’ incredible upcycled product line fits us perfectly. Dolly’s carries belts, wallets, and different types of AG’s bags and we continue to be amazed by the innovation in this company’s efforts!

Maddie on Things: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics By Theron Humphrey
Annotation: Maddie is a sweet-tempered coonhound who accompanied her owner on a yearlong, cross-country trip while he worked on a photojournalism project. In his spare time, Humphrey took photos of Maddie doing what she does best: standing on things.
And that is it. This book is 160 pages of pure bliss [for dog lovers]. Photographs of Maddie that have kept us here at Dolly’s from our work for, well, longer than we would like to admit. We are obsessed with Maddie and Theron’s project and, as they are currently on a book tour, we would love to have a visit from them.
Stop by the store today for a few minutes of flipping through this wonderful collection.
Dolly’s is honored to host a monthly classic-flavored bookclub. We hope to have you join us on these selected Monday evenings at 7:00 PM here at the store. The next meeting will be Monday, February 25th–we will be discussing “House of Mirth”.
